BRIEF HISTORY

Department of Anaesthesiology was started as a sub speciality of general surgery department in 1965 with Dr.Mary George as Asst.Professor and two lecturers. In 1967 the department was made independent with Dr.Mary George has the head of department.The department at that time catered to the clinical Anaesthesia requirements of basic surgical departments.Respiratory care was of special interest to Dr. Mary George and patients with respiratory failure were saved because of the ventilator care by the Anaesthesiologists.A two bedded Anaesthesia ICU was present even at that time.The Pg course was started in the department in 1976 with 1 MD & 4 DA seats.Later the number of faculty as well as PG seats were increased and at present we have a total of 24 posts of staff and 10 PG seats (4 MD & ^ DA).In addition we have DNB candidates also.

Gynaec & Obstetrics
Paediatric Surgery
Plastic Surgery
Neuro Surgery
Cardiothoracic & vascular surgery and modifiefied ECT.

Apart from this department is running regular pre-anaethetic clinic
Post anaesthesia care
Pain & palliative care service
Department has a two bedded AICU were ventilatory care is given to needy patients.

III. Academic Activities

Regular classes and clinical discussions and practical training are conducted to the students-MBBs,Post graduates,(MD-DA-DNB)Nursing students and DOTT students

IV. CME's

Department is conducting at least one CME every year.Every month in association with the ISA city branch we conduct a scientific programme.State conference is held once in eight years.
