History
Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is one of the founding Department of Medical College, Kottayam. The Department started functioning in the District Hospital Kottayam in 1962 and was shifted to the present hospital in 1975. The Department cater for patients hailing from 5 Revenue Districts of Kerala- Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Eranakulam. The important mile stones are

MBBS students are posted in our department during their 3rd, 4th , 6th ,7th,8th,and 9th semesters. They are posted in all units including family planning. They attend OP and theatre & IP patients as well. They have one month internment in labour room. In labour room, they see patients and take part in the management of all cases.
They will have theory classes, case presentations, seminars and panel discussions and do dissertation.
Post graduate
training:-
They are posted in all units. They take part in conducting, OP, casuality, and management of IP patients. They initially assist and later do major and minor surgeries under observation.they are also posted in labour room and take part in the management of patients. They conduct normal and complicated deliveries under observation. And assist and do cesarean sections.
