Parent Teacher Association
Medical College, Kottayam

Report
[Academic Year 2000 - 2001]

[General body meeting of the Parent Teacher Association held on 30.04.2001 at 3.30 pm in the G.C. Lecture Hall MCHG]

The present Parent Teacher Association under the Presidentship of Dr. P.I.James had done laudable services towards the overall development of this institution. During the last year, our main achievement was that we could face the unusual Inspection by the Medical Council of India quite successfully. Now the recognition is retained and the MCI had dropped around 80% of the objections they had raised in the previous inspection. This could be made available through sincere and dedicated efforts put by the members of faculty, the office staff and other para-medical personnel of the institution. The services rendered by the PWD is also worth remembering on this occasion. In the General body meeting of the PTA held on 23.10.2000, Principal was authorised to use the PTA funds to meet the expenses in connection with the MCI Inspection. Accordingly, we could renovate our pre-clinical departments, update the libraries and museums, accommodate and extent reasonably decent hospitality to the inspectors from the Medical Council of India.

Eventhough the recognition is retained, the Council has not dropped 20% of their previous objections which are mainly due to the absence of a permanent College building. We had given several representations to the higher authorities at various levels. But, unfortunately, this year's budget does not seem to include this item. So we had to pursue the matter and take up the matter with the Government to get this included as an additional item.

Since the Secretary PTA had to take up multiple assignments, many of the routine works are yet to be completed. I assure you that all those formalities will b fulfilled without any further delay.

Dr. P. CHANDRA MOHAN
SECRETARY PTA & VICE PRINCIPAL
