Brief History

The division of nephrology was born in Nov. 1981 by the untiring efforts of Prof. R Kasivisweswaran. Peritoneal dialysis was offered to patients from 1975. First hemodialysis was done using Drakewillock machine in 1981 Nov. Renal biopsy was started in July 1981. Prof R Kasivisweswaran was the first Professor and Head. DM nephrology course was started in 1995.The Division of Nephrology was renamed as the Department of Nephrology in 2007
